Gemma Corrales

Born in Alicante, Spain, I started music lessons with my uncle at the age of seven. I later decided to pursue my flute studies at the Oscar Esplá School of Music in Alicante and at the Cologne University of Music, as well as to a master degree at the Dortmund Orchestra Center. During my studies in Germany I also received a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Yehudi Menuhin Foundation and from the Dr. Carl Dörken Stiftung.
I am the winner of several national and international competitions: Jeunesses Musicales Spain, Concurso Nacional de Jóvenes Intérpretes de Xátiva, Concurso Internacional „Toxiria Flauta“, Concurso de Jóvenes Intérpretes „Ruperto Chapí“, the International Chamber Music Competition in Castilla León and the Friedrich Kuhlau Competition with the Musor Flötenquartett. My solo debüt was in 2007 in Palau de la Música Catalana with the Andorra Chamber Orchestra and performed as a soloist on small and large stages across Europe.
Aside from my musical activities with ensembles and as a soloist I have also played with many different orchestras. I was a member of the academy of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and have also been engaged by the Duisburg Philharmonic, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen and the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra. As a guest I often play with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the WDR Funkhausorchester, the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln and the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra. I have also worked on several productions with the contemporary music ensemble MusikFabrik.
Since 2006 I have been a co-founding member of the Musor Flötenquartett. With the ensemble I can indulge my passion for chamber music. I also make music in other different ensemble and took part in the ARD and the Carl Nielsen chamber music competition.
